As Drake dropped a new track with Aaliyah‘s vocals, many speculated on how the Haughton family felt about it… Well, her brother Rashad Haughton posted the following message on the Official Aaliyah Facebook page, making it clear that they are not in support.
“there is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family.” – Rashad Haughton (regarding upcoming album release rumors)
The apparent gotcha-gotcha about it is that her music is managed by her uncle Barry Hankerson‘s label, Blackground Records which is now a subsidiary of Universal, which also distributes YMCMB. The Blackground logo was on the artwork along with Drake’s OVO owl logo. While Aaliyah’s family doesn’t officially control her music, it would be the honorable thing to do, to get their blessing.
As for a biopic? Rashad also says: “No female I’ve seen can play my sister.” Agreed Rashad, agreed.
