UPDATE: Chris Brown’s sentencing, scheduled for Wednesday (August 5), has been delayed until August 27. The judge in the case is seeking additional information from the singer’s home state of Virginia on whether it can accommodate mandates included in Brown’s proposed plea deal.
Under the guidelines of the plea reached last month, Brown will be under probation for five years, attend weekly counseling and perform community labor service.
According to The Associated Press, Judge Patricia Schnegg has yet to hear back from officials in Virginia, where Brown is expected to serve out his sentence. Schnegg apparently wants to make sure Brown endures community labor work and not just community service. She made the announcement in court following a brief meeting with a prosecutor and Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos.
Chris is scheduled to be officially sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community labor today. The judge has said she wants Brown, who will likely be allowed to serve his probation in his home state of Virginia, to do work that is comparable to graffiti removal or roadside cleanup.
While the two have not faced each other in court, or in public despite whispers of their path crossing in New York, Rihanna is asking that the judge relax the order of protection on Chris. Donald Etra, Rihanna’s attorney, said Tuesday that the 21-year-old singer would not appear in court for Brown’s sentencing. Etra said he would ask Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg to rescind a restraining order that keeps the pair from talking or meeting one another. Etra said he would ask that it be replaced by an order that prohibits Brown from harassing, annoying or molesting Rihanna.
