Meet Ann Nixon Cooper

This is the remarkable 106-year-old woman Barack Obama made central to his historic acceptance speech, as she cast her vote to help put him there. Ann Nixon Cooper, a former socialite who has worked for her community in Atlanta for decades, was mentioned in the Chicago speech. Obama said: “This election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. But one that’s on my mind tonight’s about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta. She’s a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their voice heard in this election except for one thing: Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old.” She cast her ballot in an early vote using a futuristic touch screen in Atlanta – mouthing “Barack Obama” as she did so.
